B&W Photography

Someone asked Chung Ping about development of B&W film. Here's his reply:

For information about how to develop your own B&W film (one of you asked), you can visit this website. Its not very difficult to play around with B&W on your own. The owner of this website sells some interesting cameras (rangefinders, TLRs, etc) and some film supplies. He is quite a nice person, personally. :)

Another word of advice: If you are going to buy any photography equipment (expensive ones), be sure that you do your research on pricing and technical specifications before committing. Some dealers may quote you a much higher price if they know you never do any research These salespeople knows how to see potential victims better than fortune tellers. A good place to look for pricing information is on Clubsnap. Buyers Beware!

Chung Ping :)

Chung Ping has things to share! :)

Hi, I have some freewares and links which will be useful to all who are interested in photography. These are the info I have shared with some of u, hence i guess it will be better to share it with all.

Opanda freewares
http://www.opanda.com/en/index.html
There are a few inside the website, these 2 are free and easy to play with. I read, but can't find if it can work on a Mac. Sorry.

  • IExif - allows u to view ur camera parameters (e.g. shutter speed, aperture, flash fired, etc) in the computer. This is useful for evaluating (by yourself) what you have done when you took the picture.
  • PhotoFilter - in the older times when film were used, plastic/glass filters are placed in front of the lens to create certain effect. In modern times, when we use digital, this is much easier as we can try different digital filters on computer.

Shaped bokeh

I did some of it at Changi Airport. I am not sure if this can be done on a compact camera or lenses with smaller aperture. I suggest u read the 2 links before trying them. Take note that it will be more difficult to achieve that effect if u are using a compact camera or lenses with smaller aperture, due to some technical aspect, as written in the 2nd link above.

GIMP
http://www.gimp.org/
This is a free picture editing software. Online tutorials and helps are freely available online. I use this as well. It is easy to use and features most of the things a novice would ever want. To me, photoshop is just slow and expensive.

That's all from me for the time being. Seen the pictures from most (if not all) of you. I must say that they are really good. I hope that you all enjoyed the programme as much as i did. See you all soon.

Regards
Chung Ping :)

About PhotograpHI'08

PhotograpHI is a new initiative by Club Farrago. Through PhotograpHI, we hope that our deaf friends can pick up some basic photography skills and motivate them to pursue photography as a weekly pastime. More importantly, by sharing our thoughts on the photographs taken, our deaf friends and volunteers can get to know one another better and thus build stronger friendships.

During the 11-week programme, participants will be going for outdoor shoots and attending photography workshops and sharing sessions. At the end of the programme, there will be a photography exhibition for participants to showcase some of their works. The photographs exhibited will be based on themes which we have set for the participants. This meaningful event will also allow the public to have a better understanding of the deaf through their photographs, thus raising Deaf awareness. Participants and volunteers will prepare for the exhibition together, which will definitely be a memorable experience for participants and volunteers alike.

So what are you waiting for? Sign up for PhotograpHI and have a great time with us!
